This term, Key Stage 1 teachers have started their journey towards building a topic-based, creative curriculum. This will incorporate big ideas, varied and engaging activities, and a sense of continuity as a way to stimulate pupils and teachers.
A creative curriculum immerses children in their learning and links everything together in termly ‘topics’. In Year 1, their first termly topic is ‘Toy Story’. Teachers have been planning many activities around this theme, including in English, Social Studies and Science.
The corridors have been decorated to further immerse children in this topic and develop a sense of creativity.
In Year 2, the termly topic is ‘Our World’. Children kick-started this topic with a visit to the Scientific Centre to learn about the world around them and since then teachers have been building lessons and activities around this theme.
This is an exciting start to a long journey for our Key Stage 1 staff and we will support them all the way. Building an exciting, theme-based creative curriculum from the ground up is no easy task, but we know they can do it!
