Over the course of the last few weeks, pupils in Year 5 have been creating their own group projects focused on the topic The Earth and Beyond. Pupils were asked to vote and select a planet to research as a group. This involved gathering key information about the planet and comparing it with Earth to state how their findings supported the fact that Earth is the only habitable planet in our Solar System.
This was a great opportunity for pupils to work together and learn about our Solar System. Even though they were isolated in their own homes, our remote learning platforms managed to bring them together to give presentations online.
Our Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher were incredibly impressed with the efforts of all the pupils in Year 5, and how they learnt important facts like the nature of Jupiter’s red spot and the names of the moons orbiting Mars.
Pupils used their Google Classroom and Google Slides applications effectively by demonstrating their knowledge of the planets and by incorporating images, videos and animations into their presentations. The pupils of Year 5 were very proud of their achievements and enjoyed the opportunity to take a fun online approach to a Scientific topic.
Learning to work together is as important a skill as learning how to research and investigate scientific facts about our Earth and its neighbouring planets. Even during the pandemic, Gulf British Academy is finding ways of bringing our pupils together.
