House System

In 2017, a House System was introduced at Gulf British Academy. We believe it is an effective way to bring together pupils from different age groups, improve pupil behaviour and minimise bullying. We also believe it promotes teamwork and a community spirit through healthy competition, assigned responsibility and achievement recognition.

The Houses

After consultation with staff and pupils, 4 Royal Houses (and colours) were chosen to represent each school House. These are the Houses of Stuart (Blue), Tudor (Red), Windsor (Green) and York (Yellow). Each House is represented by a House Captain from our Secondary Department and House Representatives from Key Stage 2.

How the system works

Allocation of pupils to Houses

Whenever possible, siblings are allocated to the same House. Once allocated, pupils may not move to a different House. The allocation of new students to Houses ensures, as far as possible, equal House representation in each year group.

The House Points system operates across the whole schools and is divided into 2 groups – EYFS/KS1 and KS2/Secondary – and the allocation of points is broken down as follows:

Awards

The winning house is awarded the House Cup and its coloured ribbon is tied to it. This is then placed in the school’s reception. 

House System activities

Every year, Houses take part in competitions within school. These range from sports days to reading competitions. This is a fun way to promote healthy competition between peers and to encourage pupils to invest in school life.

Pupils who take part in extracurricular and non-academic activities may also be awarded house points for their achievements. This can be a great way for diffident or reluctant pupils to contribute.
