On Tuesday this week, Gulf British Academy was very excited to welcome Mr David Bedford into school. David is a best-selling children’s author, workshop leader, and motivator of children’s reading and writing. He is the author of over 80 books for infant and primary aged children, published worldwide, and has 16 years experience visiting schools around the world.
This was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to learn directly from an author and to talk about their passion for reading. David ran two reading assemblies during which he talked about how he became an author and why he loves his job.
Children had the opportunity to not only listen to him read his stories but also ask him many questions. Alongside this he conducted two creative writing workshops for pupils in Year 2 and Year 3. These further developed their writing skills while encouraging them to speak with David about his books and writing.
Providing opportunities like this to children is vitally important at Gulf British Academy; it promotes a love of reading and learning, and gives them a glimpse into the ‘real-life’ world of work – in this case, creative writing and publishing from an author’s perspective.
We thank David Bedford very much for coming and look forward to reading more of his books in school.
