From pirates to animals and from toys to ancient Egyptians, hundreds of pupils across the school dressed up on Thursday last week to conclude what was an amazing and enjoyable GBA Book Week 2017.
Book Week is an important initiative in our school as it encourages children to be creative as well as develop a life-long love of reading – Mr Kane Gorman, Head of Key Stage 1.
Book week aims to enthuse and encourage pupils to develop a love of reading and literacy. The week started with activities and games associated with each class’ chosen book and ended in a fancy dress and food party – even the teachers came in fancy dress!
Reading is about meeting new people and visiting magnificent places – Mr Mark Scott, Head of Key Stage 2.
As the week progressed, a display appeared in the school playground showing GBA teachers getting ‘caught’ reading. This was a great conversational point for pupils and encouraged both their spoken language and discussion skills. Demonstrating to children that adults also love reading is vital to a school’s teaching programme.
We all had an amazing week and we are already looking forward to celebrating Book Week 2018!
