National and Liberation Day celebrated!

Today saw Gulf British Academy celebrate its first National and Liberation Day within our new building and facilities. And what a day it was!

Marking Kuwait’s declaration of independence in 1961 and to celebrate the day when Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah ascended to the throne in 1950, our staff and students had a wonderful time dressing up in national colours and costume on Thursday. It truly was a sea of vibrant red, white, green and black national flag colours.

Activities included National and Liberation Day performances organised by our Arabic Department where students took to the stage in our theatre and performed songs and dances to express love for their country and relaying a message in arabic for world peace.

The quad was also awash with art activities set by our Art Department! These involved all Year levels. KG and Reception recognised that we are all part of Kuwait by filling the outline of the Kuwait flag using their handprints and fingerprints pressed into paints mirroring the colours of the flag.

Year 1 and 2 cut out a large puzzle template and inside each puzzle piece, they wrote something they love about Kuwait, whereas Year 3 and 4 pupils decorated letters and shapes with traditional patterns, all in Kuwait flag colours.

It didn’t end there! Year 5 and 6 students recreated the iconic blue stripes of the Kuwait Water Towers with blue-coloured papers and traditional patterns, and Year 7 and 8 students built a 3D model of the Kuwait Towers with coloured papers, tin foil and plastic lids – they even used recycled paper to record a special memory or messages of hope for the future, which they glued to the central structure.

Finally, a classroom-based quiz consisting of 22 Kuwait-themed questions was enjoyed by many…

A big thank you to all our pupils and staff for embracing this special day and of course to our parents for dressing your children splendidly – we were very impressed!

We wish everyone a great half-term break and a fun-filled Kuwait National and Liberation Day holiday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Sunday 6th March 2022.
