Last academic year, our annual Sports Day took place in February, but this year we decided to hold it this month. Iqra’a Bilingual School (IBS) once again allowed us to use their facilities and it all kicked off on the 18th for KS2, followed by KS1 and Reception on the 19th. Pre-KG and KG also took part and headed out on the 19th for their sports day in Mishref Park.
All our children up to Year 5 enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the day. These included obstacle courses, sack races, egg and spoon races, bean bag and shooting star throwing events, football dribbling drills, and running, tricycle and other relays to name just a few. Our Year 6 pupils also played an important role in helping our staff organise and referee each event.

It’s always great to see our pupils encouraging each other to do their best – it fosters a real school community spirit especially when the teachers get involved, with some having fun just as much as, if not more than, some of our children.
The day was split in two to accommodate for a much-needed break to recuperate and take on food and refreshment (kindly set up and served by IBS’s catering staff). It was also an opportunity for our children to get together and chat about their performances, which was great to see.

As each Sports Day came to an end, we were treated to special pupil vs. teacher tug-of-war event…and the tension was real as both sides battled it out. Sadly for our pupils, the teachers showed no forgiveness and won all bouts. However, all was forgotten as everyone took part in an impromptu Zumba session to stretch and warm down.
Sports Day is an integral part of our calendar and we always look forward to it. It embodies our school values in many ways whilst promoting exercise and encouraging healthy competition between pupils and our House teams. Speaking of the latter, the House winners are…
…to be announced in the New Year. Watch this space!
In the meantime, we’d like to thank our P.E. Department and all our staff for planning and organising the events, the DJ for providing the music and the much-used microphone, and of course Iqra’a Bilingual School and all our pupils who showed passion, trust, empathy and respect throughout the day.
Enjoy the winter break and we look forward to welcoming our pupils back on the 7th January 2019.
