Today we carried out our first fire drill of the year – an essential fire safety procedure conducted by all schools to practise the safe and effective response to a fire.
At GBA, we perform and time a fire drill regularly to continually self-assess and optimise the critical sequence of events that will ensure everyone is evacuated quickly from the building. The safety of your children and our staff is a priority.
Children are taught to move quietly yet quickly without running. They must walk in single file to their exit routes and designated assembly points in a calm, orderly manner, led by the teacher they were with at the time of the alarm sounding.
The sequence of critical events continues with a head count, (including visitors/onsite workers) checked against registers and visitor books.
Teachers must report that everyone in their charge is accounted for. Information about anyone who is unaccounted for (the number missing and their last location) as well as the location of the fire (if known) is relayed to the fire service by the person in charge of the evacuation.
We take each fire drill very seriously so that children and staff know and understand what to do in the event of a real emergency.
