This week, Reception pupils went on a field trip to Pizza Express, Marina Crescent, to learn how to make and cook pizzas! The trip was in connection with their unit on “People who help us – Occupations”.
The children were very excited about going to Pizza Express. They were going to be a pizza chef for the day! Wearing chef hats, aprons and food preparation gloves, the children listened to and followed all the step-by-step instructions given by the Pizzaiolo (pizza chef).
This meant they used their listening, concentration and dextrous skills to prepare the dough bases, spread the passata tomato sauce evenly and finally top their creations with mozzarella cheese, basil and other fresh ingredients. Any mistakes and it could affect the taste of their pizzas!
Mmmm! What’s that smell? After about 20 minutes in the oven it was time to remove the freshly baked pizzas and taste them! Judging by the photographs, it looks like they all enjoyed the pizzas they made – a perfect ending to a rich learning experience.
