Scientific Center trip kicks-off Year 2’s ‘Our World’ topic

Scientific Center Year 2 trip - Gulf British Academy

Earlier in the week, Year 2 pupils visited The Scientific Center to augment their learning for the ‘Our World’ curriculum topic.

First up on the day’s jam-packed programme was the aquarium. Here, pupils journeyed through three different environments: The desert section, which contained animals such as caracals, snakes, and hedgehogs; the coastal edge, where we found animals such as penguins, otters and various coastal fish; and lastly, we dived deep into the ocean depths and saw all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures including SHARKS!

After ascending safely, pupils were treated to a movie in The Scientific Center’s IMAX Theater. On the giant 15m high and 20m wide screen they watched Watermelon Magic 3D – a sweet combination of story and science during which they learnt about one of our most basic human needs: healthy food. It chronicled a season on a family farm, as young Sylvie grew a patch of watermelons to sell at the market.

Finishing off their day was Discovery Place. Here we explored the 50 educational and interactive exhibits that enthralled both children and teachers! The exhibits were physically and mentally challenging. Some required problem-solving skills, others, teamwork. Bubbles, basic physics, genetics, perception and thinking, and the science of food and sports were just some of the topics covered.

Our final voyage delivered us safely back to school where we could reflect on the day’s adventure and learning. Year 2 are only at the beginning of their learning journey with so much to discover ahead, but they have proved themselves to be bright-eyed and bushy tailed learners ready to conquer all!
